Press Release: 2025 Elections Hailed as Secure, Fair, and Free
CHICAGO – As the 2025 elections close and votes are counted, it is abundantly clear that election officials have succeeded in administering secure, fair, and accessible elections for voters across the country.
“The 2025 elections were among the smoothest in recent history,” said Sam Oliker-Friedland, Chief Executive Officer of the Institute for Responsive Government. “This success is a direct testament to the tireless work, professionalism, and integrity of our state and local election administrators, poll workers, and volunteers who navigated complex logistics and ensured every eligible voter’s voice was heard.”
This year, eligible voters benefited from an array of tried-and-true voting methods – from robust early voting to secure vote-by-mail, ballot drop boxes to in-person voting on Election Day – all working in concert to maximize participation while upholding the highest standards of election security.
Even when faced with challenges, such as threats made towards elections in New Jersey, statewide officials and law enforcement were able to mobilize quickly and effectively, ensuring voters could safely cast their ballots. While the increased presence of threats at polling locations is unprecedented and unacceptable, the resilience seen in New Jersey is an indication of the strength that underpins elections.
“Moving forward, it is critically important for states to prioritize adequate funding to uphold the standard of administering excellent and resilient elections,” Oliker-Friedland continued. “Sustained investment is crucial to building on the successes seen this year.”
