WHAT WE DO

Building Democracy Through Voting Policy

American democracy is a living, breathing process. Like our society, democracy must evolve to keep up with modern times and practices to ensure access to the ballot box without sacrificing security and integrity. Responsive Gov is dedicated to working with partners to analyze the best solutions for each state and create policy that works for their constituents. Our team has expertise in practical policy solutions including but not limited to: registration modernization, proof of citizenship solutions and voter ID, restoration of voting rights, remote voting options, and more.

Voting isn’t just about turning in your ballot – there are processes that happen before and after behind the scenes to ensure voters can make their voices heard on Election Day. The Institute for Responsive Government helps policymakers find solutions to ensure their elections in an effective and efficient manner while expanding access to the ballot box and maintaining the utmost level of security to protect the integrity of the rolls.

In fact, there are a number of policies that eligible voters benefit from that allow them to safely and securely register to vote. These solutions include, but are not limited to, automatic voter registration, same-day registration, online voter registration, pre-registration, and more.

Solutions include:

  • Automatic Voter Registration
  • Same-Day Registration
  • Online Voter Registration
  • Shorter Advance Registration Deadlines

Access to the Ballot Box

Alternatives to voting on Election Day have become increasingly popular. Having more methods to cast ballots means an increase in accessibility for voters from all walks of life. Options that are gaining traction in states across the country include:

  • Voting By Mail
  • Permanent Absentee
  • No-Excuse Absentee
  • Early Voting
04

Elections Funding

Across the country, local election officials charged with the sacred responsibility of facilitating our democratic system face dire challenges. The main problem they’re facing? Funding.

In order for our democracy to continue growing in an ever-changing society filled with new technology, rising security threats, and election laws that are constantly shifting, election offices require adequate funding to provide the 21st century experience that voters deserve.

Responsive Gov works on a few initiatives to advocate for funding for elections offices, including:

  • The Election Infrastructure Initiative
  • A More Responsive Government Grant Program
