CHICAGO, IL — A new interactive map from the Institute for Responsive Government allows voters to quickly and easily access key voter registration deadlines for statewide primaries, statewide presidential primaries and caucuses, and federal general elections. Voter registration processes and deadlines vary from state to state, and many online resources offer conflicting and at times inaccurate information to voters. Responsive Gov’s new tool features state-specific information sourced directly from either the Secretary of States’ websites or board of elections resources, coupled with checking state statutory language for accurate deadlines.

“Registering to vote looks different depending on what state you live in, and many states are continually changing the processes and deadlines that eligible voters must meet in order to cast a ballot. It’s no surprise that many people find it a burdensome and confusing path to navigate,” said Sam Oliker-Friedland, executive director of the Institute for Responsive Government. “At Responsive Gov, we believe that increasing transparency and reducing unnecessary bureaucratic headaches is one of the ways we can make it simpler for more people to participate in our democracy. We hope this new map can give people a clear sense of exactly what they need to do, by when, in order to participate in federal and statewide elections.”
